Public Policy and Governance Society, IIT Kharagpur serves as a dynamic platform for impassioned students to rigorously examine, deliberate upon, and actively engage with current public Policy and governance issues. Encouraging critical thinking and fostering innovative ideation, we foster collaborative efforts among students. Our overarching goal is to empower students with the requisite knowledge, skills, and resources to effectuate meaningful change in the realm of public service. Through robust discourse and concerted action, we endeavor to cultivate future leaders dedicated to shaping a more informed, effective, and equitable governance landscape.

Events

What We Do.

Public Policy and Governance Society organizes a variety of events throughout the year to promote Public Policy Culture at IIT Kharagpur. Our Governance Awareness Programme witnesses huge participation from all over India. Events like Cracking the UPSC Code and Mentorship Program take the CSE preparation to a whole new level. PPGS also publishes various blogs on Policy Research focussed on budding Policymakers. Internship Programme helps IIT Kharagpur students land internships in Public Policy and get to know their work in greater depth. Insight Ignite helps society members to develop personally and professionally.

Cracking the UPSC Code

Cracking the UPSC Code an initiative dedicated to nurturing the aspirations of civil services aspirants. We bring the wisdom of experienced officers from the field of public service directly to our students through engaging speaker sessions, complemented by insightful blogs and video recordings that answer pertinent questions. Moreover, we serve as a supportive platform where doubts are clarified and collective learning thrives. Together, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and guidance needed to confidently pursue their UPSC dream.

Policy Research

Policy Research initiative is a testament to our commitment to intellectual exploration. Through rigorous research, we craft insightful blogs on governance issues, connecting the dots across various domains. Additionally, we engage in lively discussions with students on government bills, providing a platform for critical insights and informed opinions. Additionally, we keep students informed with articles on current affairs and highlight significant days. We aim to bridge the gap between academia and real-world governance among students.

Mentorship Program

Mentorship Program is a guiding light for serious UPSC aspirants. We connect students with recent young officers who are proud alumni of IIT Kharagpur, offering invaluable mentorship, periodic interactive sessions, and dedicated support throughout their preparation journey. These officers bring their firsthand experience to the table, providing insights that are both relevant and inspiring. They stay closely engaged, ensuring that they stay on track with their preparation.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Learning Beyond the Classroom where we engage with school students to inspire and empower them on various fronts. Through interactive sessions, we provide guidance and insights into academic and career choices. Moreover, we focus on holistic development, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being, happiness, and the dynamics of governance. Our mission is to kindle a spark in the young minds of these students, helping them envision a brighter future and discover their potential.

Internship Programme

Internship Programme is designed to empower students by bridging the gap between academia and real-world public Policy internships & projects. We offer comprehensive guidance on various public Policy internships, including eligibility criteria and CV enhancement strategies. Our guidance extends to helping students understand the significance of contributing to the field, ensuring that their journey into public Policy is both fulfilling and impactful.

Insight Ignite

Insight Ignite dedicated to nurturing the holistic growth of our Society members, through engaging intra-society events. Furthermore, we actively support our members in their journey towards excellence in the field of public Policy, facilitating research on pivotal governance topics. We aim to ignite the flames of ambition, knowledge, and personal growth, ensuring that our members are well-prepared and well-rounded individuals poised for success in their endeavors.

Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a proposal in India that seeks to replace religious, customary, and traditional personal laws governing aspects such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and maintenance with a single, inclusive law applicable to all individuals regardless of their religion, caste, creed, sexual orientation, and gender.
This article gives an overview of UCC and gives an unbiased opinion on the matter, along with some suggestions and practical problems addressing it.
